Memorial Day Weekend 2019

In honor of Memorial Day, Knight Museum staff members can be found at the Alliance Greenwood cemetery for assistance to anyone whom might need it. We will be able to assist with things such as Grave site locations and will also have some small tools and wire to help with any small repairs. A staff member can be found roaming around Saturday May 25th through Monday May 27th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Alliance Greenwood Cemetery is located at 2323 CR 58, Alliance, NE 69301.

Cemetery Information – Alliance Cemetery

-Latitude 42.11050, Longitude -102.83680
This is a public cemetery that originally started out at 3rd St. and Flack Ave. in the early days of Alliance. It was soon deemed to be not the correct place and was moved to the present location 1 mile east of 10th St. Flack and 1/4th mile north on CR 58. Those first graves were moved to the present site with the earliest grave recorded as 1885, 3 years before Alliance became a town. Some of these earliest graves may have been reinterred from other sites. The original lots were 8 spaces for $15 including perpetual care and the cemetery was run privately and governed by a cemetery board. This Board kept track of lot owners but not burials and what records there were seemed to be scarce and ill kept so in 1916, the cemetery was turned over to the City of Alliance and renamed Alliance Cemetery. Over the years land was added and new sections were open with the present site extending to the north of the original land. In 2015 over 8,500 souls are buried there. A Kiosk is available to assist in finding graves or the Knight Museum & Sandhills Center has records and obituaries. Graves are available for purchase at the Alliance City Hall at 320 Laramie Ave. or 308-762-5400 ext. 2214.
